Meat

Our Protein Mixes are only ever made from Australian, human-grade muscle meats (NB - the Minced Chicken Frames meal also contains the frame as well as the muscle meat).

We then add a rich, nutritious gravy containing a small, healthy amount of vitamin and mineral rich Australian  liver.

No meat products, by-products or unspecified nasties!  Just high quality protein.

All our Protein Mixes contain several sources of meat which improves the variety of amino acids to aid in a complete and balanced diet for your pet.

Plant Protein

Beans, peas, chickpeas, lentils, quinoa etc.

To get a good variety of amino acids, in addition to the animal proteins in our Protein Mixes, our bases all contain a plant protein source.

Fish

Oily fish is a great source of Omega-3 which is good for shiny coats and eye development. It is also beneficial to dogs with allergies, inflammatory and auto-immune conditions such as arthritis. Click on the link below for more info.

Some say that, as with kids, it improves concentration which leads to improved trainability in puppies!

Seasonal Fruit & Veg

Seasonally available WA/Australian grown fruit, veg and herbs to provide the best flavour at the best price for you and your dog whilst keeping down the food miles.

Fruit, veg and herbs provide many of the vitamins necessary for your dog's optimal wellbeing.

Grains

Pasta, Oats, Rice, Barley, Corn and Wheat

We provide both grain and grain-free options.

If you choose to include grains in your dog's diet they provide a good source of carbohydrate (energy) and you can rest assured that dogs are, in fact, able to digest it.

Eggs

Eggs are a high-quality, easily digestible, complete protein.  For this reason they are a key ingredient in our Puppy Supplement and several other menu options.

Here at Wholefood Hounds we use only free-range West Australian eggs and then use the shells to make our Calcium Supplement - No wastage :)

Natural Calcium Supplement

100% crushed egg shell made by us from free-range, West Australian eggs.

Calcium is vital for dogs and is the nutrient most likely to be lacking in a home-made diet.

Ground egg shells provide a great, natural source of calcium but without the high levels of phosphorus and heavy metals that you would get from a source such as bonemeal.

Dairy

Our Mince Mix Ragu Protein Mix contains cheddar and cottage cheese which provide, amongst other things, protein and calcium for your dog.

Many dogs love cheese and dairy products although there is some controversy surrounding their suitability for dogs. Generally, it is a nutritious and much enjoyed food for dogs although some may not tolerate it (generally the lactose) as well as others.  Cheese typically contains lower amounts of lactose than other dairy products.  However, as all our food is made to order we are happy to leave it out if you (or your dog) prefer.

Kelp

A natural mineral supplement made from seaweed which we add to our gravy as a multi-vitamin/multi-mineral.  Check out Wikipedia to see everything it contains! 

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

We add Organic Apple Cider Vinegar to our Protein Mixes to aid in the digestion and absorption of the other nutrients in the food.

Turmeric

Turmeric, a herb from the ginger family, has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine.  It has been getting plenty of press lately for its health benefits in both humans and animals.

We add it to our gravy as it contains several vitamins and minerals.  However, as with many Eastern medicines, the conventional research on its benefits is limited (in humans and even more so in pets).  Check out the info below on all of the possible benefits.

Malt Extract

A natural source of B vitamins, simple and complex carbs and amino acids.  It is an old-fashioned dietary supplement.

Just a little is added to our gravy for nutritional benefit and because dogs love its sweet malty taste!

Anything else?

During the cooking process we may add a little oil or butter and water and our doggy biscuits contain WA honey, organic flour and organic peanut butter made from 100% peanuts.

Absolutely nothing else.  No additives, artificial preservatives, colours etc.  Only good quality, locally sourced wholefoods go into our products.  Please note that exact ingredients may vary according to availibility and seasonal variation.
